I am a teacher of English in Italy and I have been working in Secondary Schools in Italy for 30 years.
Immediately after graduating in 1985 I got a permanent position as a teacher in a Vocational School for Agriculture where I was expected to teach content related to the growth of vegetables and production of wine or cheese in English!
The students were not very motivated to learn the language and when I insisted on the importance of English in their lives and went into the classes with plenty of motivating materials the simply replied cows have to be milked every day, they wouldn't have much time to travel around the world and animals understand Italian better than a foreign language!!!
